We are very excited, that with support of the Northern Beaches Council, the Cousin Quartet will give a recital of two masterpieces, Mendelssohn Quartet no.2 and Shostakovich Quartet no.8 on Sunday 28th August at 3pm. The venue is Forestville Memorial Hall, 3 Starkey St, Forestville.

Sydney based string quartet, Cousin Quartet, consists of two sets of brothers and sisters. Violinists, Beatrice Colombis (19) and Dylan Colombis (14), violist, Hanna Wallace (17) and cellist, Jamie Wallace (14). They are also cousins and have been playing music together since they were 3 years old. All members of the Cousin Quartet began learning the violin from their grandfather Yasuki Nakamura AM. 

In 2020, the Cousin Quartet were the inaugural winners of the Musica Viva’s Strike a Chord Championship, where they were awarded the Robert Salzer First prize, as well as the Flinders Quartet Mentorship Prize and the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) Prize. As a result of the ANAM award, they were given the opportunity to spend a weeklong residency in Melbourne studying at ANAM with Sophie Rowell and Howard Penny. The week concluded with a performance of the Mendelssohn octet and Schumann piano quintet with students from ANAM. 

Cousin Quartet were also given the opportunity to collaborate with the Flinders Quartet working together to perform the Shostakovich Octet Pieces for the Melbourne Digital Concert Hall. Since their success winning the Musica Viva Championship, the Cousin Quartet have performed regularly, being invited to play at numerous events. 

In April, 2023 they have been invited to spend a week in Japan as part of an International Cultural Fair which will include performing at the Okayama Symphony Hall.
